This Week at the Cottages
INDIAN RIVER LAGOON WATERFRONT COTTAGES

Week of September 1,2017

Well here we go again, its Labor Day Weekend and for those of us who spend a lot of time on the water we will see a lot of boats we don't normally see. Please be careful, watch out for the other guy and be patient if you use the public ramps, let's all remember the reason for the holiday and give thanks for the freedom and all that entails.

Today also is the opening of the fall Snook season remember the slot is 28-32 inches

Boating Forecast : seas 3-4 fri, 2-3 sat and sun with south winds 5 to 10 knots

Reports:

Inshore - The snook have been hitting all over the lagoon from harbor branch thru the inlet to the power lines, most are being caught on finger mullet. They have not came in the big schools yet but small pods are around. Lots of mangrove snapper are being caught along the channel edges on chicken rigs. Trout have been plentiful from before sunup to around 8am - eating the same finger mullet with the biggest being caught north of North Bridge.

Offshore - Sailfish, Kingfish and Wahoo have been doing very well in 70 - 140 ft of water with a lot of bait just out of the inlet. Snapper have been holding close to structure in the 40-60 ft range.

Beaches - Albies have taken over feeding on the huge schools of small minnows and whiting are at the breakwater early in the morning
